How To Get Evryone On The Bus
This week we share a message from Jon Gordon that will help you boost productivity personally and corporately while creating a team and an environmemt that people will want to be a part of.
They said he should be fired. They said he didn’t connect with his players. They said he was an archaic dinosaur whose old school domineering coaching methods didn’t work anymore with today’s younger players. They said he was as warm as a block of ice.
But then something happened.
Tom Coughlin, the head coach of the New York Giants decided to change and as a result his team won the Super Bowl in 2008.
How did he do it? He made a bigger effort to connect with his players on a personal level. He made it a priority to let his players know he was not just a coach but a human being. He listened to their concerns. He even took his team bowling during the pre-season. He also created a leadership council of veteran players that would create better communication between the coaching staff and the players. Tom Coughlin lightened up and as a result so did the team.
Tom Coughlin’s metamorphosis and the Giant’s success underscores the importance of connecting with others and the impact it has on individual and team success. We may live in a technology driven world but the keys to success are our ability to connect with PEOPLE and create strong bonds and meaningful RELATIONSHIPS.
Whether you are in management, sales or customer service to succeed you must be able to connect with your employees, team and customers on a personal level.
You must be real, sincere, authentic and connect emotionally with others. If you are in sales make an effort to get to know your customers and make it a point to be interested rather than interesting. If you are in management make an effort to get to know your employees. Make time for them. Communicate with them. Listen to them. Let them know you care. Share your values as a leader. Explain to your team why you lead the way you lead. Be transparent and let them see you as a real person. Lighten up.
You can still be a strong leader and a human being at the same time. You can still hold your team accountable and be emotionally connected to them. In fact if you are emotionally connected to them they work harder and longer and become more loyal to you.
Just ask Tom Coughlin. His transformation wasn’t the only reason why the Giants won the Super Bowl. Eli Manning still had to make miraculous throws and the Giants defensive line still had to attack Tom Brady with reckless abandon. But as many of the Giant’s players stated, Tom Coughlin’s improved relationship with them inspired them to play harder for him and fight for the team. It brought the team closer together and created an emotional bond that is necessary for true success.
And if Tom Coughlin can change at the age of 61 then so can we. Ask yourself who you need to connect with to enhance your team’s success? What action can you take today that will improve your relationship with your customers. What do you need to do to lighten up? When can you get your team together to “get everyone on the bus?”
Have a great week unless you choose otherwise.
Drago
PS - We have created a series of new ads for one of the largest Dodge dealerships in Canada, Sherwood Park Dodge. The ads were done in a manner to reflect the dealerships simple appraoch of doing business. You can view them at adamadgroup.com our favorite is the Ad Guru spot, go figure.
PPS - When the developers of Auguston, a unique residential building project in the Sumas Mountains approached us, they were clear that while they wanted the "features" of the project to be presented, they did not want the same old pretty picture type advertising that is common in the industry. Understanding that consumers need to find a way to place themselves in the environment, we proposed a blend of the traditional style of brochure type video, with POV, or point of view cinematography.
Auguston was filmed with RedCam, the best "cost effective" Ultra High Definition technology currently available today. Click on the link and enjoy ! Go2Productions

The Star Within You!
A star…you know that twinkling thing that we admire from afar. In human terms we see stars as those who shine brilliantly in their field of endeavour. They are people who perform a skill or exhibit a characteristic that we can look at, appreciate, and admire. Becoming a star and seeing the star qualities in your people, is the first step in preparing to be an “Employer of Choice” that attracts and retains the best.
In this workshop we examine the elements of being a star:
S - See what is needed T - Tenacious with standards A - Accountable for their attitude R - Relentless about reaching results
Participants will engage in an interactive session designed to increase personal awareness, create individual action steps, and enhance accountability. Through real-life examples, small group exercises, and personal reflection, those who attend will leave inspired with the tools to reflect on who they are, where they are going, and how better to lead others. A comprehensive “star” workbook accompanies participants as they transfer their workshop experience to their own reality.
This program is usually offered at $99 a person, but Kevin, Shelley and The Adam Advertising Group want to make sure that 2009 is a great year for you, so the program is being offered Free Of Charge. There is no catch, this is our way of helping spur the economy! Feel free to invite friends, family and co-workers.
To register for the event email Laura Morrison at claritysuccess@shaw.ca with the names of the people who will be attending and what time session you would like to attend.
The Adam Advertising Group is proud to play a small role in the on-going success of many of the companies featured in the MMM.
